Sony Televisions

Masaru Ibuka and Akio Morita founded Sony as Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo in 1946. This electronics manufacturer, well-known for items including the compact disc player CDP-101, the walkman portable music player, the home video tape recorder CV-2000, and transistor radio TR-55, started a variety of businesses. Sony purchased Columbia Pictures in 1989 after acquiring CBS Records in 1988. In 1994, the business also released the PlayStation home video game console. Sony entered the financial industry in Japan. In 2021, Sony changed its corporate structure and gave its electronics subsidiary the name Sony Corporation.

Sony is the biggest producer of image sensors, the second-largest maker of cameras, and one of the top sellers of semiconductors, with a 55 percent market share in the image sensor industry. As of 2020, it ranked third globally in terms of annual sales and was the biggest participant in the premium TV market for televisions measuring at least 55 inches (140 centimetres) and costing more than $2,500. It is also the second-largest TV brand by market share.
